New management at Fotografihuset

PRESS RELEASE 17.8.20

The board of Fotografihuset in Oslo has engaged Jonas Ekeberg as the new general manager from 1st of October 2020.

Jonas Ekeberg began his commitment as artistic director of Fotografihuset on 1st of February 2020, and will in future hold both roles.

– We are very happy that Jonas Ekeberg has agreed to this commitment. He possesses the necessary professional and administrative expertise to establish Fotografihuset as a profiled and unifying institution for the photographic community and all those interested in photography in Norway, says Arthur Tennøe, spokesperson for the board of Fotografihuset AS.

Jonas Ekeberg is 53 years old and a trained photographer. He has previously been editor of the journal Hyperfoto (1994–1997), freelance writer and curator (1997–2002), information manager and curator at the Office for Contemporary Art Norway (2002–2004), director of the Preus museum, the national museum of photography (2004 -2009) and editor-in-chief of the online journal Kunstkritikk (2009-2020).

– It is fantastic to lead the work to establish a photography house with international ambitions in Oslo. The photograph is everywhere. It is intimate, insightful, engaging, upsetting, beautiful and earth-shattering. Contributing to photography gaining a more central place in Norwegian cultural life is the best challenge I could have received, says Jonas Ekeberg.

On 20th of August 2020 Fotografihuset’s pilot program opens at Sukkerbiten in Oslo.

– The board of Fotografihuset will take the opportunity to thank Erling Johansen for his great efforts in connection with the project at Sukkerbiten, as chairman from 2015 to 2018, and as general manager, says Arthur Tennøe.
